Diet plays a major role in how you feel day to day, and tracking can help you uncover patterns between what you eat and how you feel.
You may have noticed there's a default "Meals & Diet" observation in your Journal. This is a tag-based observation where you can select how you ate for the day.
You can also create multiple instances to track meals throughout the day.
However, there are also ways you can customize your Journal to capture what you need to keep an eye on. Here's how you can do that:
Add the right observations for you:
If gluten is important to track, there is a built in Gluten Intake observation where you can track the actual amount of gluten you consumed. However, if you want to track whether a day was gluten free, you can also add a "Gluten free" observation as a Yes/No observation type. This makes it easy to see how your symptoms trend on days you ate gluten versus days you didn't.
Similarly, if you want to track dairy intake, add a "Had Dairy" observation as a Yes/No observation type.
If you'd like to track intake of specific food groups (like sugar, caffeine, or processed foods), you can create an observation such as "High sugar food" as a Yes/No observation, or as a Count if you want to track the number of times you consumed these foods per day.
In addition to any diet-specific observations, you can add in the additional symptoms you'd like to track to see how your diet impacts them.
*Note that the above are examples of what you can add, but any observation in Folia can be changed to track however it fits your needs best!
Track your symptoms and start building your health history 🌳
The more you track, the more data you'll have in your insights, graphs, and patterns to start to see insights on how your diet is affecting your symptoms overall.
Visualize your data with Graphs or Calendar Filters
By using graphs, you can see how symptoms such as bloating, sleep, fatigue, headaches, or digestion change based on gluten free days, dairy intake, or other diet observations you're interested in. Here's a guide on using Graphs in Folia.
Another way to visualize your data is by using Calendar Filters. This makes it easy to pinpoint patterns, or just see which days something occurred or not. Here's a guide on using Calendar Filters!
Not only will tracking these things start to help you understand exactly how your diet is impacting how you feel overall, but it will also help you become more mindful of the nutrition choices you're making on a daily basis.
